Blinky Bee (2019)

When Ken from Maryland Meadworks approached Branden about making an LED installation to celebrate Meadworks anniversary Branden jumped at the chance to make something fun for one of his favorite places in his hometown.

Inspired by the design of wall sconces another artist created for Meadworks, Branden took their bee pattern and blew it up to a 3’ circle populated with addressable RGB LEDs (recycled from The Eyes!). He then created custom software to allow Meadworks staff to control the colors and patterns of the bee via a small web app.

In 2023 Branden upgraded the bee, replacing the custom controller and software with an ESP32 board running WLED to give the folks at Meadworks even more beautiful options, including sound reactivity!
