Birdcalls! (2016)

David Schulman was the lead artist on this wonderful piece that combines creative recycling with education and nature.

David worked with both Cornell University and local residents to obtain recordings of, and facts about, birds local to the Washington, DC area. He then worked with local voice over artists to create a series of audio files about each bird.

Branden then took those audio files and hacked an actual payphone so that visitors could dial numbers and hear the over 15 minutes of produced audio (including a few Easter eggs!).

Perched up above the phone is an amazing sculpture by Howard Connelly. He utilized all sorts of upcycled materials from music stands to lightning rods to quite literally put a bird on it.

This project was made possible through a grant from the City of Takoma Park, Maryland. You find the piece on the corner of Flower Ave. and Erie Ave. in Takoma Park.
